It all began with a group of promoters who were known as the
National Wrestling Alliance. Each of these promoters had their own geographical
territories. These promoters had their own world wrestling champions. As the
time passed, the promoters from the Northeastern territory became more powerful
and it got way more difficult for them to survive the competition. As a result
of this, some great new wrestlers came on the scene who became the most
powerful promoters of the new federation (WWF). They were named as Vince
McMahon and Toots Mondt. Seventies was the time World Wrestling Federation was
prominently subjugated by Bruno Sammartino and Pedro Morales.
During this successful era, the center of wrestling was
Madison Square Garden which is located in the New York City in the U.S. The wrestling
enthusiasts and admirers always gathered at various arenas across the U.S to
watch their favorite wrestlers showcasing their powers and skills. In the year
1976, Mondt, the wrestling legend died and Vince McMahon who was an old school,
fired one of his stars for appearing in a movie. The star was nobody other than
the world’s most popular and legendary wrestler ‘Hulk Hogan’.
Later Vince McMahon sold out this wrestling federation to
his son in the year 1983. His son knew that with the advent of cable
television, the wrestling would no longer remain a regional business. Instead,
the wrestling was definitely going to become an international business. Keeping
in view the future of wrestling, McMahon Jr. hired powerful men from all over
the world. The entry of Andy Kaufman to the wrestling federation got this
organization an enormous fame. Today the world wrestling federation is known as
World Wrestling Entertainment, shortened as the WWE. The two major companies
under WWE include WWE RAW and WWE Smackdown.
